What is the difference between an assistant living home and a nursing home?

Often mistakenly referred to like one another, nursing homes or assistant living homes can be very different. Many assisted living homes to offer various services, including planned meals, housekeeping, and transportation. They also have wellness programs and planned activities that allow residents to meet new people. Assistance with daily living tasks such as dressing, bathing, and eating is also provided by assistant living. Assistant living is a great option for those who don’t require any medical care. However, many assisted living facilities offer particular wings to help with dementia and Alzheimer’s. Assistant living homes are not eligible for Medicaid and require private payment.

For residents who require 24-hour care by certified nurses, nursing homes are the best option. These patients may be bedbound or have injuries that require regular attention. Nursing homes accept Medicaid and private pay. However, unlike the assistant living, there is often a long waiting list before being taken to the Medicaid pay plan.

Independent living and retirement communities

All retirement communities and 55+ communities can be classified under Independent living. Independent living can be described as a community that offers apartments or freestanding houses that can be rented or bought. Independent living is excellent for people who need little or no help. However, many places provide cleaning services for an additional fee.
